Georgina Butler

Writing. Dancing.

My name is Georgina – Georgie/George are my nicknames – and I am a journalist, writer and dance/theatre reviewer.

I am a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) with post-graduate industry qualifications in journalism from the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).

I have experience of writing news, features, reviews and supplements, as well as interviews, web stories and advertorials for the Milton Keynes Citizen newspaper.

I am also a contributor to, a dance writer for Culture Whisper and a writer for Ballet Papier.

When I am not writing, I dance. Dance has always been a huge part of my life – I have studied classical ballet since I was a toddler and have also trained in modern, jazz and contemporary dance. I performed on stage in professional and amateur productions throughout my training and am passionate about advocating theatre and the arts.

As I have been a writer and a dancer for as long as I can remember, reviewing dance and theatre productions is the perfect outlet for my skills – and also puts my analytical personality to best use.

I was recognised as an ’emerging dance writer’ at Cloud Dance Festival: Showtime (London, November 2013) and seize any and all opportunities to watch and review dance.

In May 2014 I was selected as an English National Ballet ‘Dance is the Word’ writer.

At university I studied Sociology – social affairs, psychology and behaviour fascinate me – and I spent a very happy three years immersed in academic life at the LSE. My dance background influenced the focus for my dissertation: ‘Gender representation in practice and performance of classical ballet – reflection and contradiction of conventional gender norms’.

If you need an enthusiastic and skilled writer, researcher and interviewer and/or would like me to review a show, please do not hesitate to contact me.
